2024 Virtual Workshop Announcements

Happy New Year!  We hope you had a wonderful holiday season.  As we all dive into 2024, the Government Records Section at the State Archives of North Carolina wanted to let you know about our upcoming virtual workshop opportunities.

In February, on the 27th and the 29th, we’ll be hosting sessions of Managing Public Records for State Agency Employees. This workshop provides an overview of the maintenance, retention, and disposition of public records for state agency employees. Registration for this workshop opens on Tuesday, January 16th.

On March 19th and 21st, we will be hosting sessions of Best Practices for Files and Filing. This workshop is open to any government employee and will cover creating a filing system that matches with retention schedules, organizing a filing structure that helps you find records more efficiently, and best practices for naming and managing electronic files. Registration for this workshop will open on Tuesday, February 6th.

In May, Emergency Preparedness Month, we will host two workshops on Essential Records and Disaster Preparedness. Each essential records workshop consists of two sessions. The workshops will be held on the Tuesdays and Thursdays of the last two weeks in May. Registration for these workshops will open on Tuesday, April 9th.

As we move into the latter half of 2024, the Government Records Section will be offering Managing Public Records for Local Government Employees in September. This introductory workshop provides an overview of the maintenance, retention, and disposition of public records geared towards local government employees. Registration for this workshop will open on Tuesday, August 6th.

In honor of Electronic Records Day (October 10), we will be hosting our Managing Public Records: Digital Communications workshop in October. Join us on October 16th or October 22nd for an in-depth look at the challenges of e-mail, social media, and texting and instant messages. Registration for this workshop will open on Wednesday, September 4th.

We’ll end the year with one more session of Best Practices for Files & Filing on November 13th. Registration for this workshop will open on Wednesday, October 2nd.
