Six fibredex boxes of Perquimans County Poor House Records from 1843-1893 have been transferred to the State Archive. During this time period, the Board of County Commissioners had the responsibility of the care of the unfortunate until 1917, when it was assumed by the State Board of Charities and Public Welfare. The Poor House Records mainly include bonds for the keepers who were charged with the supervision of the Poor House and itemizations of expenditures on the destitute for food, clothing and burial costs. These records C.R.077.927.2-7 (catalogued as MARS ID 277.102.2) are arranged chronologically and complement the Volume of Minutes of the Wardens of the Poor from the same time period. They may now be accessed in the State Archives Search Room.
