Two new drafts of County Government Records Retention and Disposition Schedules are posted on our website. We are looking for your comments and questions to make these schedules better and more useful to you.
One draft is an update of the County Management Schedule. This schedule, last updated in 2006, covers many of the basic functions of county government such as, Administration, Planning and Zoning, and Inspections and Code Enforcement. Please take a look at the section(s) of the schedule that pertain to your office or job duties and let us know if you have any questions or suggestions. New items and changes from the previous schedule are highlighted in yellow. For the County Management Schedule, please submit questions or suggestions to Carie Chesarino at email@example.com or 919-807-7357 by March 15, 2013.
The other draft is an update to the County Tax Administration Schedule. That schedule is intended for use by County Tax Offices. New items and updates are highlighted in yellow. For questions or suggestions concerning this schedule, please contact Emily Hanna at firstname.lastname@example.org or 919-807-7360 by March 13, 2013.
The schedule updates are based on feedback we have received since the last publication of these schedules. One major change is that we are now asking you to set a specific retention period for items with the disposition instructions, “destroy in office when administrative value ends.” This change was debuted last year with the publication of the Municipal Records Retention and Disposition Schedule. We produced two blog posts explaining that change, which you can read here and here.
Don’t hesitate to contact Emily or Carie about these schedule drafts, and watch this space for announcements of the official publication of these schedules.
