I feel like the stacks is a mystery to most patrons. It is a place that employees go to retrieve those valuable county, state, and private collections. I always see the excitement in new visitors as they hand over a call slip and wait for those gray fibredex boxes or volumes. Well, we are continuously collecting and arranging permanent records.
During inventory we worked on some large projects. One main project was shifting county records in the stacks. We are moving Mecklenburg County to floor 3A. Mecklenburg County is currently located on floor 2A. We are also adding additional accessioned county records. Some of these records are listed off-site in the card catalog. Patrons will be able to request more records on Saturday. Unfortunately, we were unable to shift all the county records. We hope to finish this project in the next couple of months. This is an exciting time for Local Records Unit and the Public Services Branch.
